Kanojo mo Kanojo has arrived:

As my first impression post puts it, 'a revolutionary work of transcendent glory.'  From the very first moment it was obvious this would be in my top anime rankings.  The only question is how much of the manga the anime will cover and thus how highly ranked the anime will eventually be.  For now it can sit at #199 until these questions are cleared up.

To make room I ditched Planetarian, not because I dislike the key work, but because I feel the visual novel was a better and more moving experience than the anime, which renders the anime version superfluous.  It's actually even deleterious -- people who watch the anime might feel that they've already seen all there is to see from this work and skip reading the visual novel, which would be the real tragedy.  The visual novel has a stream of consciousness going on that the anime just can't capture, which makes everything feel more visceral and real.  More serious.  The anime tried its best, but the visual novel reduced me to tears for like thirty minutes straight.  I want people to focus on the Planetarian that matters.  That's why the Planetarian visual novel is ranked 6th in my visual novel hall of fame, despite being so much shorter than its competitors and having a full anime adaption.

It's the same for Rewrite.  I originally had the Rewrite anime in my rankings, but I got tired of it straying from the original visual novel and eventually decided it was worse than useless.  People need to read the visual novel, not be led astray by the anime, so no matter how good the anime is (because it reflects at least partially the quality of the visual novel), I can't endorse it to anyone.  I'm looking forward to the Rewrite+ visual novel release which will be the true perfect version of the story that the world should dive into.  This is why Rewrite is my 5th ranked visual novel in my visual novel hall of fame despite having a 24 episode anime adaption already.

I'd like to replace many more series in my top anime rankings, but the only two surefire replacements I know are coming are The Eminence in Shadow and Shikkakumon.  So whether I like it or not, it may be that this is the top anime rankings we're basically stuck with for the rest of time.  I'm glad I was at least able to shunt aside Planetarian into its proper place.

In To Heart2 I finished the Ruri/Sango route.  It has a lot of similarities to the Asa/Yoru route of Konozora, but is massively inferior.  Still, I can't deny how cute Ruri and Sango are, or how great it is that I get to sleep with both of them by the end.  I also like that Ruri's problems were realistic and something you might really encounter in life, as opposed to many of the silly problems most girls have in visual novels.  Solving Ruri's problems felt manageable and rewarding.  Sasara's problems, on the other hand, seemed completely insoluble and the only real answer was to run away and find a better girl with less drama.  If you try to get too close to Sasara, her parents will grab her and move to the other side of the world.  Good luck with that.
