Yet another series has been postponed to 2019. First it was the Eromanga Sensei ova, then Code Geass's sequel ova was bumped back to 2019, now this. 2019 is profiting from 2018's bizarre inability to produce anything. Everything was delayed to fall of 2018, and now even that's been delayed to spring of 2019.
Remember the Koutetsujou no Kabaneri movie that was supposed to come out in 2018? Well now we'll get it in 2019. How about that Macross anime? Turned into a sequel Delta movie, set for 2019. There are already 22 great anime franchises scheduled to air something in 2019 -- that's higher than the current total for 2018.
By the time all the great new series of 2019 appear, and other shows are announced over the months, who knows how high that number could grow.
2019 is benefiting from 2018's loss. 2018 just can't seem to get its act together. The Sailor Moon Crystal movies were announced eons ago, but where are they? Presumably 2019. Like everyone and everything else.
Hopefully they won't delay everything another year and ruin 2019 too. But at least as things stand, 2019 is shaping up to be one of the best years in anime. We need it to be -- there's no World Cup or Olympics to save us next year.
Shingeki may have suddenly ended, but Fairy Tail, Index and SAO are absolutely delivering every week. 99% of anime's greatness is contained within these three shows anyway.
