I rewatched Rewrite and the result was very lukewarm. I remember the visual novel being so much better. The first season is practically all filler and worthless. Moon, the start of the second season, is good, but for some weird reason the anime abridged the content even though that was the best part. And then we're thrown into the Terra arc, which starts strong but eventually becomes completely incoherent and unrelatable.
It feels like a lot of good ideas were floating around in this script, but the work as a whole was poorly executed. And then the anime adaption poorly executed even that. A poor execution of a poor execution starts leaning extremely heavily on the art, music, and voice acting to extract any value at all from the production. I admit those three are stellar, but is that really a great anime? Or just great voice actors, great composers, and great art galleries doing their own thing?
Next time I redo my rankings, Rewrite will be a lot lower than its current place of #109. Once enough good anime exists in the world, maybe it can be dropped entirely. People should just read the visual novel. The anime represents no value added at all.
