The Big Lie of the modern world is peddled by both major parties and ideological fulcrums that are allowed mass media access.
The liberal version is that once white straight cis-males stop being bigoted, everyone will get along harmoniously and prosperously forever after. Occasionally the mask slips off and liberals announce that we should simply kill all white males and thus solve the problem once and for all, since everyone agrees they're the only thing holding the world back from utopia, but for some reason other liberals condemn these principled, honest thinkers in their ranks and demand that no, we just need more tolerance training. Whichever faction ends up on top -- the endless brainwashing faction or the genocide faction, it's a big lie that anything prospers once white males are removed from the equation. We're the source of all prosperity on Earth and once we go out, like the sun, the world will be plunged into an eternal dark age.
This is inarguable if you've read Charles Murray's Human Accomplishment, or know anything about history. Anyone honest enough to admit that all the leading artists and scientists, inventors and discoverers, statesmen and philosophers, economists and businessmen have been white males cannot possibly argue that the problem in the world today is white males. If they're dishonest enough to deny these facts then they're not worth arguing with any further, because the facts have been documented beyond all dispute.
But the conservative version of the Big Lie is just as bad. It says that once we treat everyone as individuals and usher in a color-blind meritocracy, everyone will get along and it will be utopia. The everyone getting along part is the Big Lie shared by both sides.
Everyone is not getting along, no matter what their circumstances. If everyone is color blind, or if all white males are genocided, it won't change anything. Because at no time in history have distinctly different groups ever gotten along under any system, law code, ideology, philosophy, religion, anything.
It's possible for one group to enslave and oppress another, though even this breaks down over time (even the caste system in India couldn't keep the populations segregated forever). But it is impossible for two different tribes to coexist happily and harmoniously under the same law code. Whoever is better off is immediately resented by those who are worse off, and the Hutu vs. Tutsi nonsense begins. There will always be a better off and worse off groups because groups are fundamentally different entities so of course they will have unequal results by any metric.
During the 30 Years War, 1/3 of the German population was wiped out due to the hatred Catholics and Protestants felt towards each other. Nowadays no one takes Christianity seriously so it's easy for Catholics and Protestants to get along in the same country. But this is just an illusion. This is not a story of kumbayah getting together and bridging tribal barriers, it's just tribes shifting over time to emphasize different things. Whatever forms a person's personal identity, along those lines he will hate and be hated by others. The battle lines are constantly shifting based on what's emphasized in modern society, but the tribalism and conflict are eternal.
The world today has new fault lines that cause friction and pain. Most countries are composed of multiple races or at least ethnicities, and they all hate each other. Islam is a fault line with everyone else. Language barriers are still fault lines. The rich and the poor hate each other. Most of all, liberals hate conservatives, a division splitting every country in the first world in two. The majority of democrats in America believe it's morally justified to punch a Nazi, and they also believe that all non-liberals are Nazis, ie, it's morally justified to kill everyone outside their tribe. They also believe that Nazis (ie, everyone outside of themselves), shouldn't even have the right to speak. They can't even defend themselves or argue their case anymore, they're so abhorrent that they should be silenced and eliminated on sight.
If this sounds like everyone getting along, kumbayah, or utopia, there's something wrong with your head. The North didn't even approach this level of hatred towards the South before the Civil War.
There's only one decent country on Earth and that's Japan, because it's homogeneous. It has one culture, one language, one religion, one race, one ethnicity. It has full employment and virtually everyone is middle class. There are no slums, there's no underclass, there's no crime or prison complex. The same political party has ruled, basically unchallenged, ever since World War II, with the whole country in basic consensus over all national policies. This is heaven on Earth. This is the kumbayah, the utopia, all these other factions have been promising but could never deliver, because they insisted their heaven had to include diversity.
Why can't we all be like Japan? No minorities, no fault lines, no diversity, no hatred. Everyone gets along and is basically the same. Everyone you meet is your friend and ally. Why would anyone want to live in America, which is divided by language, race, ethnicity, politics, class, and religion? We're the most diverse, ie, fucked up country on Earth. And we take pride in this. But what is there to be proud about? Our crime rate is well above the rest of the first world's. We have weekly psycho spree killings that no one else on Earth has. We have the most expensive and the least effective health care system on Earth. We're the fattest people on Earth. 20% of the country is diagnosed with a mental illness. We have the largest prison population on Earth, even by percentage. Our democracy is completely dysfunctional, with no one satisfied with the results of elections and everyone preferring undemocratic countermeasures like coups, the 25th amendment, impeachment, slander and defamation in the press instead of arguing about the actual issues, Russia conspiracies, recounts, court rulings that completely ignore all written law and precedents, etc, etc.
Multiple assassination attempts have been made against our elected officials in just the past year, and millions of Americans have been calling for more. Is this kumbayah? We no longer accept a peaceful resolution of our differences, which is what elections were designed to do. Now if we lose the election we just take up guns and shoot down the enemy Congressmen. Is this really a sustainable system?
Black nurses laugh as our elderly white veterans die due to their negligence. Black nurses tweet about how all white babies are future rapists and terrorists and should be fed to the wolves before they're allowed to grow.
Trucks plow bikers over in NYC while the driver screams 'Allahu Ackbar!'
And yet we're told that diversity is our greatest strength, and what America really needs is more of it. There was a time when the Soviets pretended Russia was much better off than America too. They made all sorts of propaganda films trying to prove how poorly off we were and how Communism really was the better economic system.
But can anyone say life in America is preferable to life in Japan with a straight face?
Or how about even this? Can anyone say that the fantasy utopia American future, where everyone is gay, Jewish, or a race mixer, as shown in the CW shows, is a better fantasy utopia than the Japanese envision for themselves in their anime?
When America's greatest vision is a dystopia, what is left? Meanwhile Japan is thinking about their technological utopian future in stories like Index/Railgun. Or venerating old fashioned values like in Clannad or Cross Game. Or drilling their way through the heavens in Gurrenn Lagann. Or soothing hurt feelings with well meaning but clumsy angels like Kobato. Or enjoying lively tank tournaments in Girls und Panzer. Or exploring virtual reality and finding the meaning of life and the strength to live it like in Sword Art Online. Or forming unbreakable friendships like in Little Busters! Or trying to shine like in Love Live! Or fighting for your homeland like in Strike Witches. Or just trying to perform well in a school band like in Hibike! Euphonium. Or dedicating yourself to a single goal and a single woman since childhood and achieving it all, like in Bakuman. Or just falling in love like in Suka Suka. That's right. Suka Suka is an account of the end of the freaking world, everyone dies at the end, but it's still a far better utopia than anything western art has imagined in decades.
Not only is Japan infinitely better than America right now, their vectors are heading in different directions too. America wishes to perfect itself by turning everyone into a sexual freak and every neighborhood into Mogadishu. Japan wishes to perfect itself by falling in love, fighting hard, caring about others, embracing future technologies and creating beauty.
Anyone who can see these trendlines (politics is downstream from culture, reality is downstream from politics), can see that what American art wishes for it will receive. And what Japanese art wishes for, it will receive.
The whole rotten edifice is coming down, just like the Soviets. There will come a time when Americans realize, unequivocally, that their lives are worse off than the Japanese, and the only reason why is because we chose diversity while they chose homogeneity. Everything else about the two countries was the same up until that point.
What will it take? Millennials already make less than Baby Boomers' did, an unprecedented in American history decrease in standard of living despite booming technological growth. Our length of life is well below Japan's and going down, not up. Half the country is abusing various substances. The illegitimacy rate is 40%, where in Japan it's 2%. Obesity is 40%. In Japan it's practically zero. The murder rate is five times as high as Japan's. There aren't any black lives matters riots in Japan, or Charlottseville battles between fascists and antifa. There isn't any civil unrest at all. Japan had no problem qualifying for the World Cup, whereas we failed out by losing to Trinidad and Tobago. What more indicators do we need? What exactly does it take to wake people up?
The Soviets somehow went a long time pretending they were better off than America. I suppose the discrepancy between America and the Soviet Union was wider than that between America and Japan, and therefore the lie will live on here too. But the trend lines are so good for Japan and so disastrous for America, that this can't remain the case much longer. Soon, America will be a worse place to live than the Soviet Union ever was. And meanwhile, Japan will be transforming itself into magical girls and espers piloting mecha. The discrepancy will just widen and widen.
And once the discrepancy gets wide enough, just like the Soviet Union deciding, after all, they prefer capitalism over communism, Americans will wake up one day and realize, after all, they prefer homogeneity over diversity. There's just no way lies can fake out a kidney dialysis or getting punched in the face by muggers or the fact that your only friends and family are cats forever.
