2013 actually had one more entry of great quality franchises above 2014.  2013's best new series was Ojamajo Doremi.  Not because it came out in 2013, but because the translation came out in 2013, which is all that matters in the English speaking world.  As a result, the entirety of the long-running Ojamajo series counts as 'all' having come out in 2013, giving it quite the boost in these yearly competitions.  As a result, Ojamajo's 8th place is 41st in my overall rankings, compared to the 84th of 2015's Hibike! Euphonium or 80th place in 2014's Sakura Trick.

That's pretty frightening, because it means 7 shows were better than the entirety of Ojamajo in 2013.  But when you look at what those shows were, it isn't that surprising.  Fate/Kaleid Liner, Oreimo, Shinsekai Yori, Dokidoki Precure, Monogatari 2nd Series, Railgun Sisters, Little Busters. . . These are all gods of the anime world.  Fairy Tail, which is at the top of 2015's list and 2nd place in the 2014 list, only manages 10th place in this hyper-competitive arena.

2013's list dominates 2014's in all ways save one -- 2014 had Sword Art Online and 2013 didn't.  SAO was the #1 entry of 2014, so that counts for a lot.  I love SAO so much, and especially the Mother's Rosario arc that was the last thing SAO ever animated, that I think I still have to give the edge to 2014.  I can see why I thought 2013 was the best year in anime ever at the time though.  What a trophy rack to sport.
