Top Anime Rankings: Blu-ray

As a simple guide, it would be nice to know which series are available, subtitled, in blu-ray, and which aren't out of those ranked.  Maybe I'll even keep this updated as time passes and more series get blu-ray releases.  But in any case, here is the 'state of blu-ray' at this time.

Why should we care if a series has a blu-ray release or not?  Many reasons.  Blu-ray releases are uncensored, 'director's cut' shows that often have extra scenes and better artwork.  In this sense, they are indispensable releases because they're the only true version of the best stories on Earth.  Furthermore, resolution matters.  Blu-ray files contain vastly more data than their dvd or TV airing equivalents, because cable television doesn't have the bandwidth to stream true 1080p content to your living room, and dvd's are too small to even hold the files.  All of this data turns into glorious vivid colors, contrasts, and sharp lines once unboxed from a proper blu-ray set, none of which are visible on any other format.  Just ask yourself if you want to look at Michelangelo's or Botticelli's paintings with every detail preserved or just as rough sketches through a glass darkly.  The better the art you're looking at, the more vital it is to have a clear image of what you're seeing.  Anime is the best art in the world, and therefore only blu-ray ever does it credit.

Blu-ray has such an advantage over other mediums, I find it hard to believe DVD's still even exist in this world.  Nevertheless, I'll admit that many anime series are not drawn to be spectacularly beautiful, but are more 'workhorse' type shows just designed to convey the story as cheaply as possible.  Shows like One Piece, Naruto, Bleach and Hunter x Hunter simply don't need blu-ray releases, because they aren't drawn like Galilei Donna is.  In cases like this, DVD is fine, so it's not really an issue if there's no blu-ray version.  Therefore, I think I'll break this code into three pieces -- blu-ray releases will get a *, shows without a blu-ray release but would benefit from one will get nothing, and series that don't have and don't need a blu-ray release will get a #.
