Already, I've felt the need to change up my top 130 rankings once more.  One reason I needed an update was how surprisingly great Haganai has been.  Another reason is that I'm factoring in what I expect will be fun new seasons of anime for The World God Only Knows and Hayate no Gotoku that will be arriving in the future.  Hopefully this list lasts until the spring anime season, but no promises.

130. Trigun (1998-2010)

There are also two notes of good news.  The Idolm@ster is getting a new anime movie, and the second season of Oreimo is going to cover the entirety of the light novel series and thus reach a satisfying resolution.  It's so rare for anime series to cover the entirety of their source, it's always a reason to rejoice when they do.  Papa no Iukoto, meanwhile, languishes with just one season that roughly covers the first book in the series (a series which already has 12 novels).  Because of that, no matter how good that season is, its lack of an ending and severe contraction of what should be a much longer series has made me kick it back down seven ranks all the way to 49th.

Once the spring season brings in some fresh blood titles, I'll be able to kick out placeholders like Saint Tail and Trigun.  Hopefully Gundam can keep the 130th slot as an honorary member just because it's so famous and important, but I hope there's something better than Saint Tail to put in my rankings by this spring.  Attack on Titan is an obvious hopeful.  There's also Date A Live and Red Data Girl.  There's also a reliable hope of a dark horse I never see coming being the new great work.

Having finished Rewrite, I sure wish they would make an anime of this Key game as well.  It's so full of action I think it would work better as an anime than a visual novel.   Rewrite would instantly join my top anime rankings if adopted, if only due to how beautiful the art, music, and characters were.  It also has a great sense of humor and some exciting fight scenes (Shizuru vs. Lucia comes to mind, or the siege on the Moon).  Even so, it would only be a mediocre offering, akin to Shakugan no Shana, because it doesn't have the heart-rending scenes of its predecessors Clannad, Air, Planetarion and Kanon.  It even fails in comparison to Little Busters because it lacks that solid group of friends having fun together feel.  Rewrite is my least favorite Key title to date, perhaps because Jun Maeda had the least influence on this title compared to all the others.  Hopefully their next title will rebound the company back to glory  (But then again, Kyoto Animation has been making dud after dud for years now, so maybe once you become mediocre you're doomed to mediocrity forever.  Sighhhh.)
