I'm tired of Psycho Pass. I'm tired of watching dark, gritty people wander around in a dark, gritty world solving dark, gritty crimes. It's just depressing. I don't see the point in so much negativity.
I'm also tired of Magi. The ridiculous evil of the villains is only as absurd as the heroes' ridiculous unwillingness to kill them when they have the chance. Good people who spare evil people just let the evil people go on doing evil against other, weaker victims. It makes no sense to spare an identified bad guy, this is your chance to clean up the world and they just blow it, over and over. I'm so tired of hearing about the evils of slavery because A) slavery was never like that, B) slavery was at a time when life was hard for everyone, so the evil of slavery must be considered relative to people's other life options, not just in abstract and in isolation. In fact, it turns out that the true evil in this world isn't slavery, but poverty. Once we solved poverty worldwide with the industrial revolution, slavery naturally withered away. Any crusade against slavery without addressing the root cause of poverty is just so much wasted breath.
I found Jojo's narration style pretty funny at first, but I can't get over the fact of how simple this world is: Good vs. evil is so ridiculously clear cut that I find it hard to even care anymore. Courage is great, okay, I get it, so why make that your theme every episode? I understood your point the first time. . . Is there anything genuinely interesting about this story? Or is it just an over-the-top splurge of violence and shouting that is a self-parody of all other adventure/fighting stories?
My biggest worry is that Magi and Jojo, being long series, will someday become good deep into the future. But should anyone have to wade through miles of crap just to reach this promised oasis? I gave both a good long chance before giving up. What more can they ask of a viewer?
To Love ru 'Lightbeams' and Robotics;Notes are also pretty weak, but I'll forge on with them anyway, out of franchise loyalty.
So this is how the fall season looks now:
1. Girls und Panzer
2. Little Busters
3. Shin Sekai Yori
4. Sword Art Online
5. Fairy Tail
6. Bakuman
7. Seitokai no Ichizon
8. Hunter x Hunter
9. Smile Precure
10. One Piece
11. Hayate no Gotoku
12. Chuunibyou
13. Ginga E Kickoff
14. Btoooom
15. To Love ru Darkness
16. Robotics;Notes
12 ranked series and 4 unranked, living on the bubble edge. Six of those ranked series didn't even start in the fall and so they just happen to be airing right now. Three of them are just continuations of previous seasons that just happened to be slated for this fall. Which means the only real reason this fall season should be praised are #'s 1-3: Girls und Panzer, Little Busters, and Shin Sekai Yori, all new series that started this fall, and all of them extremely good. Any time 12 ranked series are airing simultaneously is a good time for anime, but the idea that 30 shows or the like could all be good simultaneously seems to have been a pipe dream. As of yet, anime isn't that deep in quality. Japan is still mortal, and hasn't entirely transformed into enlightened beings.
Meanwhile, how are things looking in terms of past releases?:
AKB0048's eps 1-4 are out in blu-ray, thanks to the great people over at Evetaku.
Coalgirls has released eps 1-2 of Sword Art Online blu-ray.
Coalgirls has released 1-10 of Hyouka blu-ray.
Coalgirls has promised to release Kiki's Delivery Service in blu-ray when it comes out this December.
Yes Pretty Cure 5 GoGo is still stalled at episode 29 out of 48 over at Doremi fansubs.
Shakugan no Shana III is slowly coming out in blu-ray over at Doki and may still be released by Coalgirls as well, someday.
Nichijou blu-ray is still stalled at the halfway point, Coalgirls doesn't seem interested in it anymore, nor does anyone else, despite how great it was.
Coalgirls is handling Yuru Yuri season 2 blu-ray and is already half done.
The Strike Witches movie is out on blu-ray and a good watch. It doesn't offer much more than the previous seasons, but it isn't worse either. A proud addition to the franchise.
Fate/Zero season 2 blu-ray should be handled by Coalgirls someday.
The Idolm@ster shiny festa oav's are still awaiting translation.
Tari Tari blu-ray is being handled by Doki fansubs.
No one I know is doing Saki Achiga blu-ray, or Natsuiro Kiseki blu-ray. It's a shame, too. Saki Achiga just won the Saimoe contest, it has the prettiest girls in all of anime, and we can't even see them in blu-ray quality. . .
It's doubtful whether Ginga E Kickoff will ever get a blu-ray release, nor is it necessary, since the graphics of the show are pretty simple anyway. The same is true for the newest season of Bakuman.
Hayate no Gotoku season 3, Girls und Panzer, Shins Sekai Yori and Little Busters haven't even released their first blu-ray volume in Japan, so there's no reason to panic over them yet.
So what are we waiting for? First and foremost, simple translations of the new Idolm@ster eps and the remainder of Yes Pretty Cure 5 GoGo.
After that, a blu-ray release of Saki Achiga and Natsuiro Kiseki at least begun by somebody.
After that, someone finishing blu-ray Nichijou, Fate/Zero 2 and Shakugan no Shana. The delays on these shows have been quite some time.
Aside from anime, we're also waiting patiently for three new Star Wars films, three new Hobbit films, and the last book in the Wheel of Time. The west is making some quality new entertainment too right now. Also, the college football bowl picture is slowly becoming visible. Who will it be? Kansas State, Notre Dame, or Oregon? January is going to be pretty exciting. Not only will there be new Da Capo, but the West will pitch in with stuff like the Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl too. It's an entertainment spiral!
