And Then there were 15. . .

One Piece is entering a filler arc, just like Naruto, so now there are only 15 watchable series this fall season.

The good news is the remaining series are still really good.  Seitokai no Ichizon instantly shot up in quality by introducing a step-imouto into the equation.  It must have learned from Sword Art Online that any excuse whatsoever to include a little sister romance will make your story an all-time classic.  Shin Sekai Yori is delivering an incredible story based around mood, setting, and originality instead of the normal building blocks of characters and plot.  Smile Pretty Cure always delivers top of the line entertainment, Hunter x Hunter is in its most exciting arc fighting the spiders, and Fairy Tail's magic tournament is full of wonder and excitement.  Hayate's storyline, though completely original content at this point, is still really funny, which isn't so surprising since the author of the manga wrote the storyline for the anime too.  The more characters that are introduced to the Little Busters storyline, the better the story becomes.  Robotics;Notes has the evil people in black suits just like Steins;Gate, which certainly ups the tension in the series from here on.  The girls of To Love are as pretty as ever.  The tank fights of Girls und Panzer are both funny and clever, you can tell a lot of thought has been put into every scene as well as the loving detail of the art put into the tanks and girl drivers.  Ginga E Kickoff hasn't been translated for a while but I'm sure it will be good once it is released with subs, Btooom has a touching love story to go along with its battle-royale.  Bakuman is rock solid as it describes the interesting lives of all the different manga-ka, and Chuunibyou at least has good art.

We're going into the home stretch of the fall anime season, but most of the good series will continue into the Winter 2013 season, so it won't feel very different.  We'll lose Girls und Panzer, Btooom, Chuunibyou, Hayate no Gotoku, To Love, Seitokai no Ichizon, and Sword Art Online, but in exchange we'll be getting Vividred Operation, Chihayafuru season 2, Da Capo III, Boku ha Tomodachi ga Sukunai season 2, AKB0048 season 2, and surely some other dark horses which will turn out to be just as good.  Meanwhile we get to keep One Piece, Fairy Tail, Naruto, Precure, Hunter x Hunter, Bakuman, Robotics;Notes, Shin Sekai Yori, Ginga e Kickoff, and Little Busters.  If Naruto and One Piece stop doing filler by this winter, that's 15 solid series, just as high as the current fall season, with the potential for many more.  2013 is looking to start with an anime bang.

How well did 2012 represent itself?  It only provided 51 series with new content out of the total top 120, a smashing world record worth of content compared to any previous year.  Of those, it actually founded 9 freshly-minted franchises, so it's not relying on borrowed light either.  There's no better time to be alive than right now, which is 100% due to the incredible output of quality anime that only began a few years ago in Japan but has continuously picked up steam since.
