The Long Wait: Summer 2012

June is the most wait-heavy month I can remember in a long time.  We must be waiting on a record number of things simultaneously.  Rewrite, Harvest Festa, Key's newest work, is also coming out in July.  Many signs point to yes that the Mists of Pandaria patch that begins the newest WoW expansion will also be sometime this July.  But to narrow down our focus, let's just discuss the anime series we're waiting for:

All of Fresh Pretty Cure has now been subbed by the wonderful people over at Curecom.  However, this is pretty meaningless until the files are gathered together into a single batch, which will give people actual access to said subbed files.  Gathering files together into a final batch takes a lot longer than one might think -- Working Season 2 has been out, subbed, in blu-ray for over a month, but the batch version of the file still isn't out.  Whatever is holding up tlacatlc6 from releasing their batched version of Working, will also be holding up the people at Curecom from releasing the batched version of Fresh Pretty Cure.  Working season 2 is only 12 episodes long, whereas Fresh Pretty Cure is 50 episodes long.  For all we know this means the batch file of Fresh Pretty Cure won't arrive for another six months.

Yes Pretty Cure 5 is still at 44 episodes subbed, and Yes Pretty Cure 5 GoGo is now at 21 episodes subbed.  Neither looks to be finishing any time soon.

The Pretty Cure New Stage Movie won't be out in blu-ray until July 18th.  We'll probably see a subbed version come up by the end of July then.

K-On!'s movie will also be released on July 18th.  However, for some reason sub groups hate subbing blu-ray K-On, so maybe it will never be subbed.  Even though it's one of the most popular anime series ever, only one group, Elysium, has made a by all accounts sub-par BD release of the series.  All the others lost interest and quit somewhere along the way.  The curse of K-On or something.  No doubt sub groups will spurn this movie too.

To Heart 2 Dungeon Travelers will conclude July 25th, but who knows if it will be subbed by anyone.

Strike Witches the movie BD is coming out October 26th, which will be the first time anyone outside of Japan can see it.

The Idolm@ster comes out in BD with a special new episode June 28th, and will be subbed shortly thereafter by the amazing people over at Coalgirls.

Coalgirls is also handling the BD release of Suite Pretty Cure, which concludes June 22nd.  Expect the subbed batch to come out some time in July.

Still no word on when Kobato BD will be subbed, or who might be doing them.

Coalgirls is handling Nisemonogatari BD, which I believe will be done some time in August.

Coalgirls is also handling Nichijou BD, which should be finished coming out in Japan June 22nd.  But they're way far behind so it's unknown when it will be available subbed for the rest of us.

Coalgirls is also handling Shakugan no Shana III BD, which finishes coming out in Japan July 27th.  Expect it to be subbed some time in August then.

Steins;Gate has been out in BD for a long time, but Commie subs seems to have no interest in releasing a subbed BD version.  Just like Kobato, there's just a void in the world.

Boku ha Tomodachi ga Sukunai finishes coming out in BD August 29th.  The great people over at Chihiro subs will hopefully be right on top of that and deliver a subbed version in September.

Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai BD will conclude with an extra episode July 11th, which should be tackled by the great group Doki fansubs shortly thereafter.

The first season of Tamayura tv should be out in BD June 27th, together with an extra episode.  But sub groups aren't really jumping on this, and Commie subs doesn't seem interested in finishing any of its projects, so. . .

Zero no Tsukaima's final season is set to come out fully in BD July 25th.  Doki fansubs should have it subbed shortly thereafter, so maybe August.

Some Code Geass filler comes out July 27th in BD.  More serious Code Geass is coming out August 4th.

An episode of Squid Girl comes out August 8th.

The Nanoha A's movie comes out July 14th, but that's just in Japan.

Meanwhile, starting in July is the summer anime season.  A preview for the season can be found here:

I expect Yuru Yuri, Sword Art Online, Dog Days, Tari Tari, Kokoro Connect, and Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru will be worth watching, but that's without even having watched the first episodes.  I doubt any of them will feature on my anime rankings list, though, which are the only series that really matter.  Once I watch enough summer anime my Top 118 anime list can grow back up to top 120 like it's supposed to be.  I'll be eager to fix that untidy situation by adding two lucky somebodys to my ever-growing list of worthy anime knights.
