I was getting seriously miffed that I couldn't read my #1 and #5 manga at mangakakalot. Of all the manga to stop updating you choose those two? So I scoured the internet and came across another manga portal site, MangaYeh. I don't think it's overall better than mangakakalot, but it did have the two series I needed to read up to date -- UQ Holder, whose final chapter came out minutes ago, and Edens Zero.
Now I'm all caught up on my favorite manga. In addition, I've completed the most amazing manga of all, the Negima-UQ Holder franchise which started in 2003 and ended an hour ago. What a journey. The story takes place over 15,000 years or so, but it felt like 15,000 years just getting to this finish line. Half my life. This is how manga should be. They should be long and exciting from start to finish, but reach an ending where all questions are answered and all plot points are resolved. This is a master class on how things should be.
Negima/UQ Holder is my #1 manga in terms of value-added, because their anime sucked, so the manga is almost pure value added. It's probably my 2nd favorite manga if you just compare the quality of one manga to another without worrying about anime adaptions, with Fairy Tail being #1. But that's still really good! It still beats series like Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball and all the rest! Plus Fairy Tail hasn't ended yet, so this is still the most significant event in manga history!
Now that I've seen the ending, I feel like re-reading the whole series from the beginning. I might glean some new insights into the story and characters knowing what I know now. Still, the story was pretty straightforward and self-explanatory so I don't know if that's actually necessary. It did a good job of explaining everything the first time through.
I noticed '100 Waifus' technically still had characters from a series not in my hall of fame -- Aiyoku no Eustia's. I intended to include Aiyoku in my visual novel hall of fame the moment it's fully translated, but just to follow my 'no exceptions' rule I promoted it to my visual novel hall of fame as is, based on the translation of the first half partial patch. Now every fictional character in '100 Waifus' is based off of a hall of fame work, no if's and's or but's about it. I took out the Clannad visual novel to make room, but that doesn't cause any trouble because Clannad is still in my anime hall of fame. Now everyone has a spot in the sun.
As predicted in '100 Waifus,' in the end Touta does 'school' Ialda. It's good to see things play out as I had hoped. Kanzen shouri, all the UQ Holders and Negi classroom girls live happily ever after (actually everyone in the universe is definitively stated to be living happily ever after!) and all the bad guys are put down! That's the kind of ending anyone can get behind.
In Edens Zero everyone looks so different now that they're older. That was certainly a surprising move by the author. Unlike UQ Holder if you do a time skip people age so manga-ka have to create all new character designs for everybody. Hiro Mashima really is a workaholic.
