There are a couple of meaningless eclipse scenes still to go, but the actual story portion is finished. There were some good aspects to this visual novel (otherwise there's no way I could have read it through), but overall it screams its lack of necessity. It's not a sequel, it's a 'fandisk,' with all that implies. Stuff that can't possibly happen happens simply because it would be funny or cute for it to do so. On top of that, you have this belabored drama about Angra Manyu finding his human heart or something, and Bazett miraculously surviving after we all thought she was killed in the original visual novel. Like, I don't care about either of these added-on characters, so it doesn't matter to me at all what happens to them, but a lot of words sure were spilled over them. Fate is way too syrupy, throwing in big words and profound concepts left and right, never specifying what the hell it's talking about, an exercise in pseudo-intellectualism.
As a huge fan of Fate, I'm obligated to read this fandisk which became the basis for many good things in Fate/Kaleid Liner, but I wouldn't recommend it to the casual anime fan. It's not worth it, the occasional Illya in a swimsuit scene in the midst of 1,000 pages of psychobabble about Angra Manyu's essence doesn't recompense.
And for every great humorous or attractive scene with Illya or Sakura there were ten scenes about meaningless no-name classmates blathering on about nothing. It's unbelievable how much attention they paid to nobodies. Oh well, I extracted the nectar from this flower -- Sakura in her sakura-iro princess gown was beautiful, I obtained a great new song, all in all a good week.
