Outbreak Company volume 18 read:

This was the final volume of the series, which yet again introduced a needless complication in order to prolong the inevitable.  At any time the story could have ended by Shinichi proposing to Myusel.  It could have ended ten volumes ago with this.  It was the obvious and right thing to do from the very start.  Instead we went on all sorts of pointless, meandering adventures where people randomly acted villainous and then were beaten down by future-tech superpowers.  So yet again, in this volume as well, the US Marine Corps decided to become a bunch of villainous thugs and were yet again beaten down by Forbidden Armor Cheat Suits that can essentially do and solve anything.

So there was the first couple hundred of wasted pages.  But at the end there was one useful page -- Shinichi proposed to Myusel.  They settled down on Future-Earth together like they always should have, as man and wife.  The one thing I ever wanted from this stupid series finally happened.

I thought it was a little humorous, the epilogue where China takes over Japan and forbids otaku culture, when China is actually a huge fan of otaku culture and produces plenty of chiname themselves.  But oh well, it was more lobbed out there as a what-if afterthought and needn't be taken seriously as having actually happened.  The story ended with Shinichi proposing to Myusel.

In '100 Waifus' I had 'Shinichi' paired with Myusel from the beginning.  I didn't know if the actual author had gotten it right and made this pairing, because this volume hadn't been translated until now.  But I did know it was the natural romance that should have happened and needed to happen.  By writing '100 Waifus' I was able to exorcise my frustration with the author for not making the right move by making it myself.  Now I'm even more satisfied with the amount of love Christopher lavishes on Myusel and Myusel on Christopher over the course of the novel.  As Christopher's personal maid she gets lots of scenes and was one of the mvp's of the story.  That's how much this romance meant to me all along.  I'm so glad it's finally official in the real story too.

It is funny though, essentially I wrote Outbreak Company better than the author of Outbreak Company did.  I have more fond memories of Myusel in '100 Waifus' than in Outbreak Company.  I feel the same way about Zero no Tsukaima, though the author at least has an excuse there -- he died before he could finish the series.  I finished it for him.  I improved on all the original works, which is why my story stands above all others.

Ichiro Sakaki shouldn't mind though, I've probably spent $100 on all these endless volumes of Outbreak Company, filling up his bank account, all because I wanted to see this one moment, only this one moment, of Shinichi and Myusel getting together.  And I love Myusel so much I honestly think it was worth it.

I've been waiting years for this moment, and now that it's happened I'm a little sad.  There's nothing left to care about now.  There's no reason to ever think upon Outbreak Company or mention Outbreak Company again.  They'll never make a 2nd anime season, no matter how obviously necessary it is.  It's been years and years since the original.  This is the last I'll ever see of Myusel and the entire cast.  A half-elf that beautiful simply vanishing into the wind of ephemeral and unclear memory.  *sigh*

My under-80 playthrough group is down to 84 entries.  I guess it'll still be some days before it's entirely done, but it's good progress.

Tomorrow I can read Charles Murray's 'Facing Reality.'
